DeKoven Center
Digitization
As a part of our commitment to preserving history where history was made, the DeKoven Center Archival Collections is actively digitizing our holdings, one piece at a time, ensuring their preservation and enhancing accessibility for researchers.
Digitizing historical documents requires meticulous care, especially for items over a century old. As records are digitized, many will be made accessible on our archives collection page. To prioritize this ongoing project, we consider three key factors:
Preservation Need: Is the record fragile, deteriorating, or at risk due to its format (e.g., CD-ROM, JPG, MP3)? Fragile or endangered materials are digitized as a priority.
Research Demand: Is the record likely to be accessed frequently by researchers and staff? High-demand materials are digitized to facilitate easier access.
Processing Efficiency: Are we currently processing the collection where the record is found? We can often streamline the process by digitizing materials during regular collection processing.
